Get Back in the Game at Vineland Elementary
We are off to a GREAT start at Vineland Elementary School! Our theme for the 2019-2020 school year is, “Get Back in the Game!” Our motto is, “Leadership: Know the Way, Show the Way!” Vineland Elementary School (V.E.S) students and staff have been working very hard to increase student achievement in all areas. The new principal, Dr. Danielle Hudzina, is a Charlotte County Public School graduate herself and is thrilled to be a part of the school community!
Quarter one was filled with a lot of hard work, student engagement, and a little bit of fun too! V.E.S started out the school year with a very successful Partner in Education (PIE) nights. Families came to the school in the evening to enjoy a pizza dinner while their child shared his or her leadership notebook. After students shared their goals and accomplishments for the first quarter with their families they headed to the café to work on a fun activity while their families stayed behind to learn more about their child’s grade level curriculum and how to best support their child at home. While their parents were collaborating with their child’s teacher, students had fun painting their own individual rocks to display in the school’s rock garden. This was a super event to build relationships between families and school!
To wrap up a successful first quarter, V.E.S families had a blast at the Heron Harvest in October, which was held on a Friday evening. This event was organized by the V.E.S Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), who did an amazing job! We truly appreciate everyone who donated their time and/or money to make this event a success. The celebration of Red Ribbon Week followed the Heron Harvest. Students dressed up throughout the week to promote the drug and alcohol-free campaign. Drug Free Charlotte County came to teach lessons focused on drug and alcohol awareness to students as well. The culmination of Red Ribbon Week was the “Dare to be Different” Drug/Alcohol Free Parade, which included a viewing area for our V.E.S families. V.E.S sure is grateful for our parent involvement and community support!
Also, during Red Ribbon week, V.E.S was very excited to have Assistant Superintendent Mr. Jerry Olivo, and Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Cheryl Edwards, help judge our Red Ribbon door decorating contest. The winners for the contest were: 3rd place, Ms. Silva; 2nd place, Mrs. Carter; and 1st place, Mrs. Walz. Congratulations to these classes! We enjoy having such special visitors on our campus to see the amazing things our students and staff are doing each and every day.
Throughout the year V.E.S students participate in a program called iReady. During the first iReady progress monitoring students demonstrated amazing growth. This increase in growth is a direct result of targeted interventions implemented by the staff as well as the daily effort from the students. Students were recognized for their hard work during the first quarter with administration visiting every classroom to announce spirit stick winners based on Outstanding Effort, A/B Honor Roll, A Honor Roll, and Perfect Attendance. Great job Herons!
We are looking forward to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) walk on November 26th, 2019. Any student who donates at least $1.00 gets to dress as a Superhero. We are honored to help raise money for such a great cause.
Vineland has some fun family events planned for after the new year. The Heron Hustle will be on January 11th, 2020 at 9:30am. The Heron Hoopla will be on February 29th, 2020 from 10:30am until 3:00pm and anyone from the Englewood Community is invited to attend! We are looking forward to our fun, family events and we sincerely thank all of our volunteers and donors who makes these events possible.
